Performers from the Zhejiang Song & Dance Theater presented a stage show with Chinese characteristics in Dubai, UAE on July 15, as part of a joint program initiated by China and UAE.

Created and directed by Liu Fuyang, head of the theater in East China's Zhejiang province, the performance demonstrated the history and culture of China to the delight of the Dubai audience.

Three typical Chinese cultural symbols - silk, tea and china – were prominent through the dance show. Ink wash painting, poetry from the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties and other Chinese cultural elements were also applied in the design of costumes and scenes for the performance.

Many traditional Chinese customs were presented to the audience, including portrayals of people making porcelain, weaving cloths, picking tea leaves and frying tea.

"The show is created by the Zhejiang Song & Dance Theater so foreign audience can learn more about traditional Chinese culture. We are honored to present it in UAE, a country along the route of Maritime Silk Road," said Zhou Ayong, deputy manager of the theater, adding that performers have also gained a better understanding of Silk Road civilization thanks to the visit to the country.

The Arabian Peninsula, where UAE is located, was part of the Maritime Silk Road, which ran from ancient China to Europe and Africa.

Nowadays, amid efforts from governments and companies of both sides, China has become the largest trading partner of UAE and the bilateral ties have reached new heights.

In a bid to further promote all-around communications between China and UAE, the Dubai government proposed a program called "Hala China" which the dance performance from Zhejiang belongs to.

The program involves a variety of sectors where the two countries are able to benefit from deepening cooperation, including investment, tourism, education, culture and technology. It has received strong support from both China and UAE.
