Twenty-two students from the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in South Africa tried their hands at paper-cutting in a cultural activity at the College of Foreign Languages, Zhejiang Normal University on July 16.
Han Xiaoming, a 30-year-old inheritor of the Chinese intangible cultural heritage, was invited to give lessons to the students. Han is skillful at paper-cutting after studying and practicing the art ever since his childhood.
Han delivered a lecture about Chinese paper-cutting and demonstrated the art on the spot. He, together with his students from Qiangjiang College of Hangzhou Normal University, shared insights with UWC students and watched over them as they made their own creations.
For many of the visiting group of students, it was the first time they had ever tried paper cutting, but many also said they thoroughly enjoyed the two hour activity.
"I found the paper-cutting activity to be really interesting and a lot of fun," said one of the group, adding that he will tell his schoolmates about it after he returns to South Africa.
