China's first overseas celadon school was unveiled in Chonburi province, Thailand on July 31 under the joint efforts of institutions from both countries.
The celadon is a type of celadon-glazed porcelain that originated in China. Since the Tang Dynasty (618-907), celadon products from China have been exported to Southeast Asia and been one of the main kinds of goods transported along the Maritime Silk Road.
Longquan county in Lishui, Zhejiang province is one of China's production hotspots for celadon crafts. The celadon produced by the Longquan kiln is renowned for its translucent glaze, jade-like coating and exquisite shapes.
To further spread celadon culture among Thai people and provide an exchange platform for porcelain scholars and enthusiasts, China Celadon Collge in Lishui and a celadon innovation center from Longquan joined hands with a local charity association in Chonburi and conceived the idea of building a celadon school together.
Based on the celadon school, there will be celadon exhibitions, lectures, academic discussions and other exchange activities staged in the future.
At the unveiling ceremony, officials extended their hope for better communications between China and Thailand, and hoped that the establishment of the school would help to further arouse Thai people's interest in Chinese culture.
