A total of 52 foreign students from 15 countries prepared some of their native cuisines for senior villagers in Songxi, in Zhejiang province's Jinhua city on Aug 22.
The students are participants of a homestay series of activities held in Jinhua's historical villages, who will experience traditional Chinese culture and local villages' cultures and also help promote Chinese villages to their countrymen during the 21-day activity.
Khuselwa Kilani and Nomandla Sinovuyo, two girls from South Africa, made a simple dish from their country. They stir-fried some chicken breast, added diced carrots and onions and then mixed them with cooked spaghetti.
Nomandla said that it is their traditional food and she and her family usually cook the dish during important festivals.
Alicia Lutgen from France prepared egg pancakes according to her prepared recipe. She mixed butter, milk, eggs, flour and sugar, spread a layer of the mixture in a pan and fried it until it was like a hard batter, and then it was ready to serve.
"The delicacy tastes sweet," the French girl said. "It must be popular among the elder villagers."
As well as these dishes, there were also steaks prepared by Ukraine's Anton Tolmachov, fried apples by Germany's Ida Herrmann, fried rice by France's Arnaud Saint-pol and many other delicious foods.
Sponsored by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Jinhua Municipal People's Government, the homestay activity has been held for seven years and earned a good reputation among its foreign participants.
