An exhibition of Longquan celadon crafts, backed by Zhejiang culture department and Longquan government, was held at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York, the United States on Sept 10.

Longquan celadon, renowned for its translucent glaze, jade-like coating and exquisite shapes, is a type of celadon-glazed porcelain originating from Longquan city, Zhejiang province and its neighboring areas. In 2009, Longquan celadon production technique was included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Humanity by UNESCO, the first of its kind in the list.

This time, a collection of 85 celadon pieces created by 81 renowned Longquan artists impressed global diplomats and UN staff with the profound history and exquisite appearance of the Chinese cultural heritage.

The whole exhibition was divided into three sections to demonstrate the making process of celadon, its influence at important international events and the integration of celadon crafts and modern life, fully portraying the past and present of the celadon culture in China and on the global stage.

Wu Songping, mayor of Longquan, said they hope through the overseas promotion of Longquan celadon, the elegance and fineness of Chinese culture can be spread to more people.

A celadon artist named Tang Wei expected the exhibits to help tell the stories of Longquan people's pursuit for beauty.

Following the exhibition at UN headquarters, these celadon exhibits are being displayed in Soho.
