Feng Dingxian
A Swiss company's tentative ordering of a batch of lighters from Feng marked a turning point. In order to satisfy the hard-won client, Feng closely supervised the entire manufacturing process to ensure they delivered high-quality products to the Swiss client.
Feng attended almost all the trade shows in Europe with products made in China to seek clients. Things were finally changing and cheap Chinese products were gaining popularity.
He established a foreign trade company in Germany and, as an early pioneer of promoting Chinese products in Europe, Feng gradually forged relationships with regular international clients and publicized made-in-China products in Europe.
However, his success abroad did not weaken his passionate love for his home country.
"As long as my hometown needs me, I will try my best to help it," said Feng.
In 2010, Feng invested 1 million yuan ($145,000) to establish a mutual fund to help Wenzhou's small and medium-sized enterprises get through the financial crisis. In 2012 and 2013, he donated 50,000 yuan to support impoverished children in Wenzhou. In 2014, he called on overseas Wenzhou people to help solve severe water problems in the city and solicited donations amounting to 2 million yuan.
To date, the overseas Wenzhou native has donated more than 10 million yuan to building bridges, supporting poverty-stricken students, and sending relief to disaster areas in China.
"Over the past four decades, overseas Chinese people have shown the world more about their home country and we will continue promoting China to the outside world," said Feng.
