The classic Yueju Opera play The Peony Pavilion, a romantic love story written by Tang Xianzu (1550-1616) during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), was staged by a troupe from Zhejiang in Warsaw, capital of Poland on Jan 15.

The story between Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei, embodying young people's pursuit of love and freedom, captivated Polish theatergoers as well as Chinese people who were residing or visiting the European country with its touching plots and the soft dialect of Jiangnan (region south of the Yangtze River).

Tao Tiefu, director of the Zhejiang Yueju Opera troupe, sent New Year greetings to all audiences and extended gratitude for their attendance in celebration of the approaching Chinese New Year.

In the following days, traditional opera performances from East China will hit theaters in another two cities of Poland, Kielce and Krakow.
