Horticulture in Haining has an early origin. At the beginning of 1980s, some farmers in the city began to turn their eyes to growing flowers. After a decade, the city government gave support to the development of the local industry.
By 2018, flower plantations in Haining had exceeded 6 square kilometers and the value of sales reached over 800 million yuan ($118.81 million).
According to the government's plan, there will be a horticultural park with an area of 2.67 square kilometers in the city. At the same time, Haining is building a flower market, or an international trade platform, with functions of research and development, display, trade, e-commerce and service.
