Quotes from internet tycoons and investors at WIC
Themed "Intelligent Interconnection for Openness and Cooperation: Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace", the 6th World Internet Conference kicked off on Sunday.
Lei Jun, Robin Li, Yang Yuanqing and other internet tycoons delivered great speeches at the three-day event.
Let's take a look at some key moments from their speeches.
Zhang Yong, CEO of Alibaba
Commercial development in the digital age gave birth to a new business civilization which is people-oriented, focuses on win-win cooperation, opening-up and sharing, and creating value and benefit for the whole society.
The new business civilization in the digital age should return to a people-oriented approach, paying attention to clients, customers and the benefit of the whole society rather than only focusing on clicks and turnover volumes, Zhang said.
"Making it easy to do business anywhere", Alibaba's mission aims to motivate the changing business community to pay attention to people, fulfill social responsibilities, respect others and help others benefit and reach new achievements, said Zhang.
Lei Jun, chairman of Xiaomi
5G is becoming an accelerator in the digital economy development, Lei said. Moreover, Lei also said his company plans to launch more than 10 types of 5G smartphones to cover all prices in the mid-to-high end market, and he hopes telecom carriers can speed up the expansion of 5G base stations.
Robin Li, chairman of Baidu
The digital economy is evolving, reaching a new stage with artificial intelligence as the core driving force after the innovation and popularization of PC and mobile internet, Li said.
The intelligent economy will bring new vitality to the global economy and will be the key source for the economy's back up and development, Li said.
As an optimist on artificial intelligence, Li disagrees with some industry insiders' opinion that "artificial intelligence will destroy humans". He said artificial intelligence will make people 'immortal', believing its development is an opportunity belonging to the whole world and all mankind, as well as making people's lives more beautiful.
Wang Xing, founder and CEO of Meituan
The digital economy should implement supply-side reform to develop, Wang said. Digitizing the demand-side is easy as most people use cellphones, but supply-side digitization will be much slower.
There is a long way to go in supply-side digitization, and huge opportunities and challenges are on the way as sellers weigh up whether or not to digitize, said Wang.
Ren Yuxin, COO of Tencent
The internet industry should maintain a strong sense of responsibility and protection awareness, as well as performing to a high standard in network ecology to build a safe and healthy network environment for young people, Ren said.
In addition, the industry also should use developmental perspectives to deal with the relationship between the internet and young people, as technology is increasingly aimed towards the younger generation, said Ren.
Zhou Hongyi, CEO of 360 Security Technology
People should guard network security issues as led by new technology and science, Zhou said.
While new technology and science bring convenience and automation to humans, they also bring huge challenges and risks to network security.
Currently, the network faces some new challenges including digital development. Each intelligent node and smart device may become an entrance and springboard of attack in the IoT network, and traditional industries including manufacturing are transforming and upgrading through internet. Access between the virtual and physical space has also shown a risk in increased cyber attacks moving beyond the platform to physical injuries, said Zhou.
Ding Lei, CEO of Netease
AI technology-oriented companies will become the new mainstream, integrating with other industries in the future, Ding said.
Companies investing in education, health care and manufacturing will have better opportunities in the future, Ding said.
Shen Nanpeng, founding and managing partner of Sequoia Capital China
The digital economy is booming worldwide, not only in China and the US, but also in other countries and regions including Southeast Asia and India. Firms have even begun to spring up in Latin America and Africa, Shen said.
The digitization is penetrating various industries and improving the efficiency of these industries, said Shen.
Cao Guowei, chairman and CEO of Sina, and chairman of Sina Weibo
Social e-commerce and online celebrity e-commerce via social media is bringing profits to the e-commerce industry, Cao said.
Brands born and popularised on social platforms can quickly promote consumption from internet users and generate strong economic benefits, said Cao.
The online celebrity has become a tag of the new economy, and will bring great economic effects in the future, Cao said.
Yao Jinbo, CEO and founder of 58.com Inc
Yao said his company has paid attention to the sinking market in recent years, and will utilize the internet to maintain development and growth despite economic shakiness.
58.com aims to reach all townships by 2020 and help 60 percent of farmers receive earnings by mobile phone, said Yao.
Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO of Lenovo
Yang said the world has entered an intelligent age, where traditional industries including finance, health care, education, transportation, communication, energy and manufacturing will undergo disruptive changes in the power of data intelligence in the future.
Intelligence will provide more opportunities for optimization and decision improvement to enterprises in research, supply-chains, production, sales, and service, said Yang.
