"Let us work together to build a better future for all," said Yuan Jiajun, governor of Zhejiang province, at his New Year speech on Jan 1.

Yuan offered his best wishes to residents of Zhejiang, soldiers and police officers stationed in the province, and anyone at home or abroad who has supported the province's development.

Yuan also acknowledged the achievements Zhejiang has made over the past year. According to Yuan, the province's GDP in 2019 reached 6 trillion yuan ($860.83 billion); its administrative streamlining reforms made life much easier for residents; its 31 measures to boost the private economy helped companies save 220 billion yuan; the environment was greatly improved; and more rural students gained access to internet resources.

In 2020, Yuan urged all government departments to strengthen economic and social reforms, improve the business climate for private enterprises, and enhance people's well-being.
