Hangzhou has intensified efforts to attract global talent, as it recently launched eight new measures aimed at attracting skilled workers from across the globe.

On Feb 26, the city held a large online employment fair, attracting more than 1,000 companies with job vacancies.

According to the new measures, college graduates coming to work in Hangzhou can receive an allowance of 10,000 to 50,000 yuan ($7,124) based on the level of degree they are pursuing.

College graduates can also receive an additional 10,000 yuan in rent subsidies every year, which can last for up to six years.

Hangzhou plans to build 50,000 affordable apartments for skilled workers, and will increase the subsidies offered to high-caliber talent.

Those who are recognized as A-level talent will receive a maximum of 8 million yuan in housing subsidies, and those recognized as B, C, and D level will receive up to 2 million yuan in housing subsidies.

The measures state that Hangzhou plans to set up a special fund to award skilled workers from China and abroad, and that the city will prioritize housing assistance for such workers.

During the online employment fair, a large number of well-known universities and companies, including Alibaba, Netease, Zhejiang University, and West Lake University, will offer more than 20,000 job vacancies, more than 5,000 of which are reserved for high-caliber skilled workers.

In addition, Hangzhou will launch an e-card system to facilitate medical healthcare, transportation, online training, and counseling for skilled workers, as well as education for their children.

The online job fair started on Feb 26 and will run until March 26. The online platform allows up to 100,000 people to interview at once.
