People from around the world will soon be able to learn about the 5,300-year-old Liangzhu civilization, a highly influential Neolithic culture in China's Yangtze River Delta, through an online exhibition entitled "Waterborne Kingdom".
At a release conference held in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, on Dec 22, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism announced that the exhibition will be launched on the websites and social media platforms of the China Cultural Center and State-run travel agencies across the world on Jan 1, 2021.
The online exhibition will showcase the landscapes, agriculture, handicrafts, hydraulic engineering, and jade wares found at the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City, which was discovered in Hangzhou in 1936 and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2019.
The online exhibition will use advanced interactive technologies, immersive animation, and embedded videos to restore the ancient culture and create the best visual effects possible.
Prior to the release conference, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism held online and offline promotional events overseas for the Liangzhu exhibition, in cooperation with culture-expo institutes in Milan, Italy and Hamburg, Germany.
At the release conference, Xu Peng, deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, said that the upcoming online exhibition is of great significance to international cultural exchange, which has been interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Scholars and officials from Milan and Hamburg sent their congratulations on the exhibition through recorded videos at the conference.
