Hua Mulan, a dance drama by the Ningbo Song and Dance Theater, debuted in Changsha, capital city of Hunan province on March 12. Changsha is first of eight stops for the drama's national tour.

A staffer from the Grand Theatre of Meixi Lake International Culture and Art Center said that all tickets for the drama were sold out within half a month after they were put on sale on Feb 7.

Directed by Han Zhen and Li Liya, the two-hour drama tells the enduring legend of Hua Mulan, who disguises herself as a man to protect her father from being drafted into the war.

As a soldier, Hua Mulan goes into battle for 12 years, becoming a skilled and esteemed warrior of the Chinese army. But when the emperor tries to bestow honors upon her for her service, the dutiful daughter retires and returns home to her family.

In December 2018, the drama was bestowed with the Lotus Award, the highest honor in China's dance circle.
