The Fangyan scenic area in Xianju county, East China's Zhejiang province, is famed for its steep summit that is surrounded by mists throughout the year.
The summit, which is made of rhyolitic volcanics, is 400 meters in altitude and some 30 kilometers in circumference. It once was the stronghold of a local warlord in the 14th century.
Today, tourists often compare the summit's landscape to what they view in the classic Japanese animation film Castle in the Sky directed by Miyazaki Hayao. A paragliding base is currently under construction in the summit.
