East China's Zhejiang province recently published the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) on the development of world-leading manufacturing bases.

Zhuge Jian, an official of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of the Economy and Information Technology, summarized the document as "building in Zhejiang some globally influential industrial clusters featuring a high global market share, pioneering enterprises, advanced technology and equipment, strong innovation abilities, and eco-friendliness".

According to the document, the added value generated by Zhejiang's manufacturing sectors is expected to make up one third of the province's GDP in 2025. By then, industries centered on the digital economy are expected to account for 15 percent of the province's GDP, while added valued delivered by the high-tech manufacturing sectors is expected to contribute 19 percent of GDP generated by the province's above-designated-size companies. The latter ratio in Zhejiang stood at 15.6 percent in 2020.

The document prioritized the development of the following industries in the next five years: new-era information technology, biomedicine and high-performing medical devices, new materials, high-end equipment, new energy, automobiles, green petrochemicals, modern textiles, and smart home appliances.
