Agreements related to capital increase, management, and investment compensation of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Liuheng Highway Bridge, a major part of the Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan Channel, were inked in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on May 31.

With a total investment of 17.65 billion yuan ($2.65 billion), the Liuheng Bridge spans 29.6 kilometers from Ganyan village on Liuheng Island in Zhoushan to Chaiqiao subdistrict in Beilun district, Ningbo.

With a designed speed of 100 km/h, the bridge will connect the Hangzhou-Shaoxing-Ningbo Expressway, the Chuanshan Port Expressway, the Liuheng port area in Zhoushan, and the Meishan port area in Ningbo.

Construction of the first phase started in April. The 10.8-km first phase is a six-lane two-way expressway, while the 18.8-km second phase is a four-lane expressway in both directions.

The Liuheng Express will include two cross-sea bridges, namely Shuangyumen Bridge, the third longest single-span suspension bridge, and Qinglongmen Bridge, the cable-stayed bridge with three towers with the longest span in the world.

In the first four months of this year, Zhejiang invested 120.2 billion yuan in the construction of transportation infrastructure, up 22.3 percent year-on-year.
