Sitting along the Qiantang river, Qiangtang district was mostly salt marshes and mudflats just a few decades ago. It is therefore often referred to as "sandy land". The Shadi Ten Dishes include six meat and four vegetable courses, mainly made of local pork, yellow-hair chicken, Qiangtang fish, and various vegetables through steaming, stir-frying, thickening, boiling, and sauteing.
