The freight routes connecting Taizhou with Central Europe and Central Asia have been fuelling the city's foreign trade growth.

As of the end of August, the city in East China's Zhejiang province had launched 22 freight trains transporting 173 TEUs containing 128 million yuan ($19.69 million) worth of goods to the two regions, official data show.

The freight train services launched by Taizhou to Central Europe and Central Asia have been operating on a weekly basis since May.

Rail transportation has injected new vitality to the city's foreign trade, given its advantages such as low costs and high efficiency.

Zhejiang Yinlun Machinery Co Ltd, which imported 600,000 euros worth of commodities from Europe as of the end of June, is among the beneficiaries of the newly launched freight route.

According to Xu Xiaoping, the executive manager of the company, the route has reduced transport time to 25 days and saved the company 2,000 to 3,000 yuan per container compared with sea and air transportation.

Europe and Central Asia are among Taizhou's largest trading partners.

In 2021, Taizhou's trade volume with Europe and Central Asia was valued at 77.18 billion yuan, accounting for 32.2 percent of the city's total.
