The "wine gods meeting" was held in Dongpu subdistrict, Yuecheng district, Shaoxing on Sept 13.

The annual event falls on the 18th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar.

In the past, the event was held to worship gods and pray for good fortune. Nowadays, it has become a temple fair to promote Shaoxing yellow rice wine, which locals have been producing since the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC).

The time-honored event was officially revived by the local government in 2010 before it was listed as a Shaoxing intangible cultural heritage item in 2012.
