A special porcelain piece tailor-made for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 – using ancient handicraft techniques for Longquan celadon ceramics and filigree inlay art – was unveiled on April 15 at the Longquan Celadon Museum in Lishui city, in East China's Zhejiang province.

The piece was jointly created by Chen Tan'gen, a Chinese ceramics master and an inheritor of the famous Longquan celadon firing technique and Yuan Changjun, an inheritor of the filigree inlay.

It was designed with the concept of integrating the civilization of Liangzhu Ancient City, an archaeological site located in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang – which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and modern Hangzhou.

According to its creators, the work is 33 centimeters high and 19 cm wide, symbolizing the 19th Asian Games. The bottom of the porcelain combines design elements of the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center.

Longquan celadon is representative of the rich beauty of Chinese porcelain and is one of the most representative cultural symbols of Zhejiang. It has a type of green-glazed porcelain that has a recorded history of more than 1,700 years and was listed as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage item in 2009.

Filigree inlay is a traditional metalworking technique that originated in ancient China. It involves soldering delicate metal wires into intricate patterns on a metal base. Filigree inlay is widely used in jewelry, ornaments, utensils and artworks.

The 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 will be held in Hangzhou from Sept 23 to Oct 8.
