The seventh Hangzhou Chinese Painting Biennale kicked off at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province on April 22.

Themed "Return to the Five Great Mountains", this year's biennale has gathered 24 guest artists and 15 young and upcoming artists who will be showcasing 228 works.

According to the organizers, this year's biennale welcomes artists from across China to use the Three Sacred Mountains and Five Great Mountains in China as a source of inspiration for their works.

The biennale lasts until May 22.
