Foreign students and teachers from over 20 countries and regions celebrated the 14th Chinese Language Day at an international school in Yiwu on April 20.

During the event, the students donned traditional Chinese costumes, learned to sing Chinese songs, and recited classic Chinese poems.

As of mid-March, there were 4,996 registered foreign-funded companies in China's small commodity hub of Yiwu. The Chinese Language Day activity was part of the Yiwu government’s efforts to make the city a home away from home for foreigners.

The UN first celebrated Chinese Language Day on Nov 12, 2010 before selecting Grain Rain — one of the 24 solar terms of the traditional Chinese calendar that starts around April 20 — as Chinese Language Day.
