Jiaxing sees booming tourism market during May Day holiday
A-level and above scenic spots and 3A-level and above scenic villages in Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province received 2.79 million visitors during the five-day May Day holiday, generating 400 million yuan ($57.98 million) in tourism revenue, up 129 percent and 108 percent respectively compared to the Spring Festival holiday in 2023.
During the holiday, 49.04 percent of the visitors were from other provinces and 0.3 percent were from overseas.
The city's three national 5A-level tourist attractions received 1.12 million tourists in total during this period, bringing in 298 million yuan in tourism revenue.
According to the list of popular scenic spots during May Day holiday released by Baidu Map, Wuzhen Scenic Area ranked third among all major scenic spots in China.
In addition, cultural consumption showed a recovery trend. The number of moviegoers in the city reached 198,000, and the city's box office totaled 7.81 million yuan.
The Nanhu Theater Festival that kicked off at the Jiaxing Grand Theater on May 1 featuring operas and dramas has so far received audiences totaling more than 1,800 and earned 152,100 yuan in box office receipts.
