The "2023 Silk Road Week" ended with a bang on Oct 24 in Hungary, with the opening of the exhibition Charm of the Silk Roads: Auspicious Designs on Chinese Silk Art at the Museum and Library of Hungarian Agriculture in Budapest.

The exhibition, hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and organized jointly by the China National Silk Museum, the Chinese Culture Center in Budapest, the Museum of Applied Arts of Budapest and the Museum and Library of Hungarian Agriculture, will run until Dec 3.

Consisted of three parts, "Silk and the Silk Road", "Ancient Silk Patterns", and "Contemporary Revitalization and Application", the exhibition presents 60 sets/74 pieces of ancient silk fabric reproductions and contemporary garment art collected by the China National Silk Museum to Hungarian audiences, to emphasize the artistic and cultural exchanges between China and Hungary through history and highlight the remarkable contribution of the Silk Roads to cultural transmission along the routes.

Together with the opening of the exhibition, the China National Silk Museum (CNSM) also unveiled its "Global Showcase" project. The "CNSM Global Showcase" project plans to create a series of exhibitions about silk culture and Silk Roads that can be displayed globally in museums, universities, cultural centers, and public spaces.

Ji Xiaofen, director of the China National Silk Museum, said that the museum will strive to build the "CNSM Global Showcase" project into an innovative, diversified, open, and win-win cultural publicity and display platform to promote cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries.

According to Zhang Chengming, deputy director of the museum, Budapest is the first stop for the launch of the "Global Showcase" project, while more exhibitions will be staged in Uzbekistan, and Spain, among other places, in recent years.

This year's Silk Road Week, the fourth edition of the event, is themed "The Silk Roads: Long Roads & Mutual Goals".

Started at the museum in 2020, the annual Silk Road Week is hosted by the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Zhejiang provincial government. It has received strong support from the UNESCO since its inception.

Over the past three years, each edition of the Silk Road Week has attracted more than 200 participating organizations and institutions around the globe.
