The State Council has recently given the green light to the proposed expansion of Ningbo Port, as put forth by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government. The expansion project will involve enlarging the open area of three port zones (Chuanshan, Xiangshan, and Shipu) by 58.13 square kilometers.

The approval marks a milestone for Ningbo Port, as it paves the way for the full opening of all eight port zones, including Xiangshan and Shipu. With the expansion, Ningbo Port will add 1,894 meters of open shoreline and nine berths, further strengthening Ningbo Zhoushan Port's position as a world-class port.

The expansion plan is expected to increase the port's annual container handling capacity by 620,000 TEUs and cargo throughput by 3 million metric tons. Currently consisting of eight port zones with a total of 312 operational berths, Ningbo Port has continued to develop and improve.

In recent years, Ningbo Port has been actively increasing its level of openness, with the addition of new berths and an increased container handling capacity. These efforts align with China's commitment to global connectivity and trade facilitation. The expansion of Ningbo Port will not only benefit the local economy but also contribute to the overall development of the surrounding regions.
