Activities launched for 2024 national reading month in Zhejiang

The launch ceremony for the 2024 national reading month in Zhejiang was held at Jiaye Library in Nanxun district, Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on April 19. During the ceremony, the list of the 30 best books in Zhejiang in 2023 was unveiled.

During World Book Day on April 23, more than 160 activities, including reading clubs, forums, recitation competitions, and reading promotion activities, were held simultaneously across various cities.

Indeed, counties, county-level cities and districts in Zhejiang will organize over 1,000 reading activities throughout the year.

In 2023, the average number of books read per person in the province was 16.5, and more than 350,000 reading activities were held, involving over 45 million people.

Jiaye Library is the largest private library in the nation with a collection of 200,000 books stored in 882 delicate bookcases. This year marks its 100th anniversary.
