Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province announced its biodiversity inventory survey at a news conference on Aug 15.

The survey identified 10,643 species within the city, accounting for 82.28 percent of Zhejiang's total species.

Quzhou's unique natural environment serves as a critical ecological barrier for both Zhejiang and East China. The city is the core of the "Huangshan Mountain-Huaiyu Mountain National Biodiversity Conservation Priority Area", boasting significant biodiversity and abundant biological resources.

From 2019 to 2024, Quzhou conducted a comprehensive biodiversity survey and established a detailed biodiversity database.

The findings include 3,163 species of terrestrial higher plants, 63 species of mammals, 355 species of birds, 42 species of amphibians, 78 species of reptiles, 4,542 species of insects, 166 species of freshwater fish, and 1,027 species of large fungi.

Additionally, the survey recorded 147 species of nationally protected wildlife and 123 threatened species.
