With the increasing global popularity of Black Myth: Wukong, released on Aug 20, ArtInno Town in Xihu district, Hangzhou, as the birthplace of the game, has been garnering significant attention.
The town offers a strong entrepreneurial environment, professional services, and policy support for startups. These factors motivated Game Science, the developer of Wukong, to establish its base in the town.
Located southwest of Hangzhou's main urban area, ArtInno Town is located at the core of the "Zhijiang Cultural Industry Belt," covering an area of 3.5 square kilometers. As a provincial characteristic town, it houses over 3,000 cultural and creative enterprises and its cumulative revenue had reached 9.6 billion yuan ($1.35 billion) by 2023, with entertainment and sports unicorn enterprises accounting for 23 percent of the city's total.
Hangzhou's cost of living is lower than Shenzhen's. Artinno Town is located near West Lake, yet property prices are reasonable. The serene environment, away from the bustling city, is ideal for focused R&D, said Feng Ji, founder of Game Science.
To meet the company's development needs, service staff in the town adhere to the principle of minimal interference, assisting only when needed. They offer comprehensive and timely support, primarily communicating online and resolving issues in person.
After years of policy guidance and industrial accumulation, over 70 percent of the town's enterprises are involved in film production, animation, and gaming, forming a supportive industrial ecosystem along the supply chain.
