Qi Fan 19, China's cable-laying vessel with the highest load capacity — 10,000 metric tons, completed its comprehensive sea trial in the Wuhu Reef waters of Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, on Aug 31.
The three-day trial focused on testing key functionalities such as dynamic positioning and anchor mooring systems, as well as evaluating the performance of its plow system and catenary laying system.
The vessel laid a 300-meter cable, simulating a full operation process from cable transfer and loading to deep-sea burial and retrieval. This was meant to demonstrate the ship's adaptability and efficiency in real working conditions.
The successful completion of these trials marks a significant milestone in deep-sea engineering for China, said a representative of Zhejiang Qiming Ocean Engineering Co, the vessel's operator.
