To streamline the application process for international students' residence permits, the Jiaxing public security bureau's entry and exit administration held a special three-day service event from Oct 10 to 12.

Over 170 new international students from Jiaxing University's 2024 class were able to apply for residence permits in person without an appointment.

On Oct 11, 30 international students completed their applications with the help of their teachers and police officers.

"The whole process took just 10 minutes, which was incredibly quick. The officers were very helpful!" said 23-year-old Nemanezhina Nadezhda from Russia, who is studying Chinese at Jiaxing University.

Another Russian student Smolina Kristina, who's Chinese name is Mei Li, praised the one-stop service for being quick and having friendly staff, and expressed her hope to return to Russia as a Chinese teacher after her studies.

This year, Jiaxing University has expanded its international student intake to a record high of about 180 students, a 30–40 percent increase from previous years, said Zhang Dan from the university's International Education College.

Recognizing the large number of international students needing residence permits, the city's entry and exit administration collaborated with the university to provide detailed guidance on application procedures. Deputy Director Zhu Feng noted that three service windows and six time slots were set up to ensure students could complete their applications efficiently.

The entry and exit administration will continue offering policy consultations, visa processing, and social integration services to support international students in Jiaxing.
