The 2024 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit is set to begin on Nov 19 in Wuzhen town, Tongxiang, a county-level city of Jiaxing, Zhejiang province. On Nov 11, a landmark agreement was signed between Wuzhen Tourism Co, Wuzhen International Convention and Exhibition (Tongxiang) Co, and State Grid Zhejiang (Jiaxing) Integrated Energy Service Co to ensure the entire event is powered by green electricity.
Green electricity is defined as there being zero or near-zero carbon dioxide emissions during production, and the green electricity for this summit will be sourced from wind and solar energy generated in western China. This renewable energy will illuminate LED screens, overhead lights, and exhibit booths, achieving a "100 percent green electricity" event.
The team from State Grid Tongxiang Power Supply Company customized an energy-saving and carbon-reducing plan for the summit, purchasing 510 green certificates through the Beijing Power Exchange Center.
"These green certificates are equivalent to 500,000 kilowatt-hours of green electricity, estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 380 metric tons," said an official from State Grid Tongxiang.
Moreover, during the summit, Wuzhen will have 226 public and 1,000 private charging stations to facilitate green travel for its guests.
