Quzhou's Memorial Hall to the Doolittle Raid and Root Art Town in Kaihua county were listed among the fifth batch of Zhejiang International Cultural Exchange Bases on Dec 6.

The Memorial Hall to the Doolittle Raid serves as a powerful reminder of the Chinese people's rescue of the United States fighter pilots who bombed Tokyo in retaliation for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II (1939-45).

Since its opening in October 2018, the memorial has been dedicated to telling the story of the Doolittle Raid and the subsequent large-scale rescue efforts, highlighting the strong friendship forged between the people of China and the United States.

On April 18, the memorial reopened after extensive renovations, featuring a vast collection of valuable historical materials and artifacts. It has attracted numerous domestic and international visitors and hosted a series of cultural exchange events.

The Root Art Town covers an area of 3.78 square kilometers and centers around the Root Palace Buddhist Cultural Tourism Zone. It boasts over 30 scenic spots, displaying more than 5,000 large root carving artworks, root art literature, and exhibits on the root art process and root culture.

In recent years, the Root Art Town has used root art as a medium to enhance cultural exchanges. It has integrated various activities such as thematic concerts and the Root Art Culture Week to create a diverse international exchange platform.
