The iconic Broadway musical Chicago has made its much-anticipated debut in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, running from Dec 12 to 15 with six electrifying performances.

As a landmark event in the Ningbo Grand Theater's 20th-anniversary celebrations, the production brings all the allure of its original Broadway essence.

First premiering in 1975, Chicago was created by the legendary Bob Fosse and has since been performed over 35,000 times globally, sweeping 50 major awards, including Tony, Laurence Olivier, and Grammy awards. Its 1996 Broadway revival is particularly iconic, featuring unforgettable jazz tunes, provocative choreography, and razor-sharp storytelling that blends dark humor with a gripping crime narrative.

The Ningbo performances boast a stellar cast, including Sarah Soetaert as Roxie Hart, Michelle Antrobus as Velma Kelly, and West End favorite Ian Kelsey in a key role.

To deliver an authentic Broadway experience, stage props, lighting, and sound systems were meticulously transported and installed under the direction of the original production team. The cast also engaged with local audiences through meet-and-greet events and Q&A sessions.

"Chicago is a timeless masterpiece," said Soetaert during a fan event. "Each performance brings fresh perspectives. I can't wait to share its magic with more people in Ningbo."

With its sizzling energy and artistic finesse, Chicago has set a new benchmark for international musicals in Ningbo, leaving audiences eager for more.
