A New Year celebration for international residents was held in Jimingshan community in Yiwu, a county-level city in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, on Jan 14.

The event aimed to enrich the lives of overseas residents while fostering cultural exchange and promoting Chinese traditions.

In addition to a Yueju Opera performance, the activity also gave the expats an opportunity to learn about Spring Festival traditions and Yiwu's brown sugar culture, make window paper-cuts, and appreciate Chinese handicrafts.

During the event, local calligraphers helped the children write spring couplets and the character fu to welcome the new year.

Calligrapher Gong Guanhai encouraged the four children to learn Chinese and its characters, embrace Chinese culture, and embody the virtues of courage and diligence as they grow in Yiwu — a city that welcomes them with open arms.
