Ningbo, Zhejiang province, recently hosted a high-level delegation from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), offering an in-depth cultural and economic experience.
The delegation was in the city for the 31st China-ASEAN Senior Officials' Consultation, a crucial diplomatic event aimed at enhancing regional cooperation and fostering closer ties between China and ASEAN countries.
A key part of the visit was the delegation's tour of the Tianyige Museum, one of the oldest extant private libraries in Asia. Its collection of ancient texts and distinctive architecture offered the visitors an insightful look into Ningbo's deep cultural roots.
The delegation also joined Lantern Festival celebrations on Feb 12. Along the riverside, lanterns illuminated the night, and traditional performances like solving riddles filled the air with festivity.
Indonesian representative Karina Adisty Iqwan said that it was her first time experiencing Lantern Festival in Ningbo, describing it as a perfect blend of traditional culture and modern city life.
At the Ningbo Urban Planning Exhibition Center, the delegation learned about the city's historical evolution, from the ancient Mingzhou Port to the Ningbo Zhoushan Port, one of the world's busiest ports.
Thai representative Akkanit Khamket emphasized Ningbo's dual identity as both a historical treasure and a contemporary economic powerhouse and pointed to opportunities for closer collaboration, especially in port management and logistics.
In addition to its cultural offerings, Ningbo showcased its advanced manufacturing capabilities. At the Zeekr 5G Smart Factory, the delegation was impressed by the city's leadership in innovative industries, particularly electric vehicles and smart appliances. Khamket praised Ningbo's forward-thinking approach and expressed interest in fostering future cooperation in high-tech manufacturing sectors.
This visit has not only strengthened the bond between Ningbo and ASEAN countries but also opened doors to new avenues for trade, innovation, and cultural exchange.
