Jiaxing Port posted record-breaking numbers in the first quarter, as river-sea intermodal shipping surged, Tide News reported on April 15.
Total cargo throughput reached 7.39 million metric tons from January to March, up 15.44 percent year-on-year. Container volume jumped nearly 50 percent to 313,300 TEUs — both figures marking all-time highs for the quarter.
The gains reflect targeted efforts by the Jiaxing Maritime Safety Administration, which since 2024 has launched three new shipping routes and issued six optimization plans in the first quarter of 2025 to better align with enterprise demand. The port also reported zero berth collision incidents since the beginning of 2024.
Officials said the improvements are part of a broader push to transform Jiaxing into a modern, efficient, and green logistics hub. As the Yangtze River Delta integration deepens, Jiaxing aims to become a key node in China's river-sea intermodal network.
