Yiwu in East China's Zhejiang province took a major step toward global standardization on April 27, unveiling its first trilingual group standards for consumer products.

The newly released documents — available in Chinese, English, and Arabic — cover hair clips and precious metal-plated jewelry.

The standards provide technical benchmarks for design, quality, and safety. They aim to support both manufacturing and cross-border trade in two high-demand product categories.

The hair clip standard addresses a range of materials and styles, including clasp-type and pin-type hair clips, outlining requirements for elasticity, fatigue resistance, colorfastness, and user safety.

The jewelry standard focuses on items made from base metals like copper and copper alloys, coated with gold, silver, or rhodium. It defines key indicators such as plating thickness, corrosion resistance, wear durability, and adhesion strength.

By translating the standards into English and Arabic, Yiwu aims to reduce language barriers, meet regional compliance needs, and boost international competitiveness. Local authorities said the translations are intended to support manufacturers' efforts to reach broader markets.
