A specially designed calligraphy experience class was held on May 15 in Hangzhou's Xihu district, giving visually impaired participants the chance to engage with traditional art through touch and sound.

The class took place at the Xixi Wisdom Building and was tailored to help students explore the structure and rhythm of Chinese characters without relying on sight.

Using a customized tactile system and guided audio instructions, the course enabled participants to feel the motion and form of brush strokes, simulating the experience of writing and appreciating calligraphy. The hands-on format allowed them to sense the spatial composition of characters, enhancing their understanding of the art through physical engagement and auditory cues.

Organizers said the initiative aimed to break barriers to cultural participation by adapting traditional arts for accessibility. The class not only introduced calligraphy as a sensory and expressive practice but also served as a platform for social inclusion.

"This is the first time I've truly felt what calligraphy is like," said one participant. "It's like touching a piece of culture."
