Zhejiang province is rapidly transforming its energy system, with clean energy playing a central role in both production and consumption, according to data from State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co.
In 2024, the province achieved a 100 percent utilization rate for both energy storage and solar power, while total clean electricity consumption reached 213.6 billion kilowatt-hours — a 16.5 percent increase year-on-year. Carbon emissions were reduced by more than 114 million metric tons.
Installed capacity for wind and solar power surpassed 50 million kilowatts, pushing clean energy to account for over half of the province's total installed capacity. External electricity supply at peak times exceeded 40 percent, with clean energy making up half of that share.
Zhejiang is also pushing technical boundaries in varied terrains. Offshore wind power is scaling up in coastal Zhoushan city, while mountainous cities like Lishui are expanding pumped-storage hydropower and solar projects. State Grid Zhejiang is advancing digital grid management and integrating thermal, wind, solar, and storage into a flexible multi-source system.
In the transport sector, Zhejiang added 12,500 public charging stations and 152,000 public charging piles in 2024.
