The 7th Dachen International Dragon Boat Race kicked off on the Dachen River in Yiwu county-level city, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, on May 31.

A total of 33 teams from China and abroad competed in the boating extravaganza.

With origins dating back to the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), the Dachen Dragon Boat Race has evolved into a vibrant modern sporting spectacle. This year's event marked its "most international" edition yet, drawing seven foreign teams and over 80 athletes from 16 countries.

Competitors raced across the 300-meter course in four categories: professional men's and women's divisions, amateur groups, and international groups.

The race commenced at 2 pm, with a team from Russia clinching victory in the international division.

The Beyti Team also drew much attention, securing third place in its inaugural race. It was composed of 12 foreign staff from the Beyti Restaurant, which offers Turkish cuisine in Yiwu.

Meanwhile, seven all-female teams stood out, notably the Yiwu Women's Dragon Boat Team — comprised of businesswomen at the Yiwu International Trade Market averaging 50 years old. They had spent a lot of time in training after work before the competition.

"Racing strengthens our bodies and fosters unity," said Gong Qiaoxian, a team member. The event not only showcased athletic prowess but also bridged cultural exchanges, blending tradition with global camaraderie.
