Ukrainian seafarer Maksym Prushchak finds purpose and perspective navigating global waters, he said in an interview in Ningbo, Zhejiang province.

As second mate aboard the CMA CGM Butterfly, Prushchak is responsible for updating both paper and electronic charts, maintaining and testing navigation equipment. Inspired by stories from friends who once worked at sea, he pursued a career in navigation.

Life on board means months away from home with only video calls to connect with family. Yet, the journey has its rewards — meeting people from around the world and experiencing diverse cultures. For Prushchak, each voyage is not just work, but a way to broaden his understanding of life and shape how he chooses to live.
