The Chinese Spirit: 60 Years of Kan Tai Keung Creative Journey exhibition opened at the China Design Museum of China Academy of Art in Hangzhou on June 22.

Running through Sept 13, the exhibition offers a comprehensive look at the artistic and design legacy of Kan Tai Keung — one of the most influential figures in modern Chinese graphic design.

Showcasing original design works, rare sketches, and personal archives, the exhibition traces Kan's six-decade career from his early days in Hong Kong to becoming a globally influential figure. Known for blending Eastern aesthetics with modern design, Kan has used posters, branding, stamps, and books to shape a uniquely Chinese voice in global design.

Kan's journey — from a tailor's apprentice to an award-winning international designer and educator — mirrors the evolution of Chinese modern design. His career reflects a deep cultural commitment, innovation rooted in traditional Chinese art, and a lifelong dedication to nurturing new talent across Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.

The exhibition not only celebrates Kan's legacy but also marks a milestone in China's design history, reinforcing Hangzhou's role as a hub for cultural innovation and creative heritage.
