East China's Zhejiang province recorded robust growth in new energy vehicle exports in the first five months of 2025, with total shipments reaching 16.32 billion yuan ($2.28 billion), up 86 percent year-on-year, according to data from Hangzhou Customs.
Exports to the European Union, the Middle East, ASEAN, and Latin America rose by 1.5 times, 98.2 percent, 3.9 times, and 1.4 times, respectively, reflecting broad global demand for China-made electric vehicles.
Wenzhou, in particular, saw exports hit 880 million yuan, up 82.2 percent year-on-year. The city's NEVs gained traction in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa, with growth rates of 1.5 times, 2.4 times, and 3.8 times, respectively. Wenzhou also made its first NEV shipment to Brazil, expanding its footprint in Latin America.
Despite the strong momentum, exporters still face challenges including intense industry competition, delivery timelines, and after-sales parts support. In response, customs authorities are stepping up support measures.
Hangzhou Customs has tailored assistance to match the province's NEV sector needs, helping companies expand into new foreign markets.
Wenzhou Customs has collaborated with local commerce departments to offer early classification guidance for auto parts, and streamline export licensing and documentation for vehicle transfers.
