Shaoxing, a city in East China's Zhejiang province renowned for its deep historical roots and influential cultural legacy, is taking a legislative step to protect the legacy of its famous figures.

The municipal government has completed its first reading of the "Draft Regulation on Cultural Heritage of Renowned Figures in Shaoxing", marking a significant milestone in formalizing protection and development strategies around its rich cultural heritage.

Shaoxing is home to a long list of notable figures, with 367 recorded in classic Chinese historical texts. In modern times, it has produced intellectuals and reformers such as Lu Xun, Cai Yuanpei, and Qiu Jin, whose legacies remain influential nationwide.

Yan Zhaoliang, deputy director of the city's legislative research center, said that these figures' legacies hold tremendous power to inspire and engage, both culturally and economically.
