Lishui's Longquan celadon replicas show ancient wisdom
The Longquan celadon reproduction project themed on "National Treasure Reappearance: Reviving the Classics" recently held its evaluation meeting in Longquan, a county-level city in Lishui, East China's Zhejiang province.
Experts from the ceramics field gathered to assess the first batch of 216 replica works.
The success rate of the evaluated pieces has significantly increased, injecting new vitality into the inheritance and development of the Longquan celadon.
During the preparation phase, the expert committee extensively researched documents from global museums and historical texts to select 103 initial pieces for reproduction. A hundred celadon artisans, inspired by ancient techniques, completed the first batch of replicas for expert review.

Launched last year, the project aims to replicate 300 classic celadon pieces over three years, fostering innovation in Longquan celadon while preserving the craft's rich heritage.
Lishui master craftsman Liu Jie, who reproduced a superb Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368) octagonal vase, said, "Replication involves meticulous imitation and personal creativity." Through the piece, Liu not only reproduced a celadon masterpiece but also displayed the wisdom of the ancient artisans.
Adjustments will be made to some replicas based on expert feedback, with the artisans striving to complete the first batch of 103 pieces soon.
