The 2025 "Root-Seeking Journey to China" summer camp concluded on July 19 in Qingtian county, Lishui, East China's Zhejiang province.

Over 500 young overseas Chinese from more than 40 countries and regions, including Spain, Italy, and Portugal, participated in the 10-day camp, immersing themselves in traditional Chinese culture through activities such as experiencing tea culture, the Qingtian fish-shaped lantern dance, and seal carving.

In the workshops, participants engaged in making the Qingtian fish-shaped lanterns and performing the lantern dance. Under the guidance of a heritage expert, Zhang Junhao from Italy learned the dance's moves.

"I was surprised by how heavy the lantern was," Zhang said, appreciating the dedication behind the preservation of this intangible cultural heritage. "I hope to share this experience with more friends," he added.

Qingtian county is the hometown of about 381,000 overseas Chinese people living in 146 countries and regions. Many new-generation overseas Chinese were born or raised abroad, with limited exposure to their homeland and traditional culture.

Since 2007, Qingtian has organized camps like "Root-Seeking Journey to China", helping young overseas Chinese reconnect with their roots. Up to now, over 10,000 young overseas Chinese from 50 countries and regions have participated in the camps.

On July 19, the closing ceremony also awarded 35 participants the title of "Cultural Exchange Ambassadors", encouraging them to share Chinese stories and culture worldwide.
