For over two decades, Mario Razzanelli, former Florence city councilor, has helped weave an enduring bond between Italy and Ningbo, one heartfelt visit at a time.

Since his first trip in 2003, Mario Razzanelli has visited Ningbo 68 times. In May, he returned once again to attend the Maritime Silk Road Port Cooperation Forum and reconnect with old friends. His ties to the city remain as strong as ever, rooted in personal friendships and a deep respect for cultural exchange.

Mario Razzanelli played a key role in building official ties between Florence and Ningbo. Thanks to his efforts, a replica of Michelangelo's David arrived in Ningbo in 2006 — becoming a powerful symbol of mutual appreciation between the two cities. He also supported the development of a joint industrial park, linking the cities through both culture and commerce.

Now, the story continues with his son, Giulio Razzanelli. Also a city councilor in Florence, Giulio Razzanelli has embraced the mission to strengthen cooperation with Ningbo. Inspired by his father's decades of work and by China's rapid transformation, he is helping carry the relationship into the future.

On July 30, International Day of Friendship, Mario Razzanelli received a message from Ningbo: "See you next year". A simple phrase that reflects a lasting promise — and a friendship that continues to grow across generations.
