Exhibition opens honoring Ningbo's wartime legacy
The Ningbobang Museum launched a special exhibition themed on local memories on the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression on Sept 1.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China's Ningbo organization.
Jointly guided by the local government and cultural institutions, the exhibition highlights Ningbo's pivotal role as a strategic base in eastern Zhejiang.
Under Party leadership, Ningbo citizens fought fiercely against Japanese forces, while members of an influential network of businessmen called the Ningbo Bang — living in other regions — contributed through industry, humanitarian aid and acts of defiance.
The exhibition features two sections. The Tides of the Three Rivers traces the Party-led resistance in Ningbo, showcasing martyrs' items like Zhu Jingwo's pen, Li Min's handcuffs and wartime currency.
The United Across the Seas section honors Ningbo Bang figures who supported the war effort through national goods campaigns, refugee relief and personal sacrifice.
A memorial wall engraved with over 130 martyr names also stands in the exhibition area. "This wall is like a memorial monument. We hope to create a scene where visitors can admire and pay tribute to the martyrs," said Ni Lei, designer of the exhibition.
The exhibition will run to Dec 14. The museum will also launch a number of lectures, drama performances and other activities with the theme of Ningbo People and the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
