The Gala Performance for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025, titled "Together We Build a Brighter Future", took place in Tianjin on Aug 31, including the participation of the Zhejiang Wuju Opera Art Research Institute (Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe) from Jinhua, Zhejiang province.
The Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe presented an ensemble featuring traditional opera roles — male warriors clad in armor (wusheng) and female fighters (daomadan), blending acrobatics and operatic artistry.
The troupe performed together with the Tianjin Jingju Theater and the Yangju Opera Institute of Yangzhou. A total of 17 performers from the troupe participated in the performance, making it the opera team with the most participants.
They shared their collective precision honed over two months of intensive rehearsals. Having received the task at the end of June, the troupe efficiently started the first rehearsal on July 1 in Jinhua before arriving in Tianjin for unified drills alongside other groups on July 11.
Through multiple adjustments under tight timelines, they finally played a wonderful part in the only opera performance of the gala in five and a half minutes, underscoring Wuju Opera's growing presence in high-level events.
