The early autumn sun shone over the lotus ponds in Xinqiao village, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Sept 8.

Among the lush leaves, harvesters were busy gathering plump lotus seed pods. Staff from the State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company visited the "Lotus Workshop" to carry out electrical safety inspections, ensuring a reliable power supply for the thriving "lotus economy" — local industries built around lotus cultivation, processing, and tourism.

Inside the lotus seed processing facility, technicians checked the electrical load of equipment used for shelling, coring, and drying. Special attention was given to motor temperatures in the threshing machines and the circuit load of the drying equipment to ensure stable operation during peak production.

"Water splashing from washing the lotus seeds into the sockets is hazardous. You must install waterproof covers immediately," the technicians advised the workers.

During the visit, they also provided clear guidance on the safe use of electrical equipment in humid environments and on fire prevention, helping staff maintain safety awareness during the busy production season.

Each summer, when lotus flowers in Xinqiao village are in full bloom, the ponds attract visitors from across the region. To enhance the experience, the power company conducts inspections of landscape lighting and charging stations in rest areas. Xinqiao has used lotus tourism to drive growth in local catering and homestay services, while deep processing of lotus seeds and roots has added value to agricultural products.
